These links announce the end of the Butler Street/Sharpsburg and the Morningside Shuttle.
My aunt and uncle, who lived in Morningside were adamantly against losing streetcar service in Morningside. I recall them saying that they and their neighbors protested the change, to no avail, of course. I wished it had lasted at least a few more years. It didn't seem as though the continuation of the route would have adversely affected the new 62nd Street bridge landing in Lawrenceville. The inbound track to the 62nd Street loop from Morningside is in the same lane used now for traffic moving from Morningside into Lawrenceville.
The car tracks just beyond the 62nd Street bridge heading to Morningside and up Baker Street lasted for years - well into the 70s. The paving there was mostly red brick. My opinion perhaps, but red brick paving seems to weather the years so much better than Belgian block or asphalt. Since then, I don't think the tracks were ever torn up - but were simply asphalted over. I even recall car stop signs continued to be used along that portion of Butler Street, in a few spots. They were simply strapped to the utility pole, that once held the sign on the hanging wire for that stop.
