Dennis,
I just checked the PRCo training video. It is titled "Don't Dent Me In". It
is about proper following distance, and all the mathematical formulas
necessary for the operator to keep a safe following distance. It does also
note the differences between PCCs and Low Floors in relation to stopping
distances. Also shown is the differences between PCC and Low Floor braking
systems. The narrator has a slow, monotone voice and even though the
material is very important, it would be interesting to know how many PRCo
student operators got "heavy eyelids" after listening to him. The other one
is a Philadelphia Transportation Company produced film (video now)
explaining the reason for using certain vehicles on different types of
routes (bus, trolley coach, streetcar, rapid transit). The different
departments within PTC are discussed as to their purpose and duties.
Interesting, but no electric switch material.
I even checked through my "Important Orders" rule book (a PATransit book,
but the only changes between it and the PRCo "Important Orders" rule book
is substituting "PATransit" for "Pgh Rlwys Co" when necessary. Even in the
rule book there are no references to electric switches. I guess they
figured it would be "drilled" into the student by the Training Instructor.
It was drilled into me. When I started on the rail district in Cleveland it
took me a week to stop slowing down for a facing point switch. This was
helped along by the Traffic Control dispatcher hounding me when my
car/train would slow down. But again, no electric switch material in the
official PAT/PRCo rule book.
