Jim sent this last night, but for some reason I wasn't able to approve it
(since it's a message from a non-subscriber) from my phone. I did so now.
My reply interspersed, but the short version is:
1) Jim is correct that his leaving had nothing to do with the mail I remember
2) I knew better (or did at some point)
3) I apologized to Jim, and am to the rest of you, for my lapse.

I stand by
1) my numbers
2) the software being broken, and...

In theory you can unsubscribe yourself. But yes, you are correct, you asked for
vacation mode, and I have no idea when that stopped working. However, as I
am typing this, I at least realized *why* it was broken, and you are
now properly
back in vacation mode, e.g. you can post with me getting something I need to
approve; It will just go through.

And indeed, correct again. 2007 was long ago, and I should have remembered,
but didn't.

I've apologized out of band (I could reply, even if not approve messages
from my phone) and I will apologize again here.
With time my association of the various pieces of the story became
unlinked, and I was grumpy about something which was a
coincidence in timing. It was unfair (and incorrect) of me,
and I am sorry I impugned on Jim like that; I was, simply, wrong.

My ex-coworkers from CMU would happily tell you that I could be,
and was actually, quite miserable in person for many years.
Only more recently in life have I gotten out from under that.
My wife could also tell you that some patterns of old behavior
do not easily go away.

If you're curious, my philosophy about alcohol is this:
1) not alone
2) not for the sake of getting drunk
3) if there are interesting or new things to try, much like food, I will do so
I can count the "bad idea" cases on my fingers. I aim to keep it that way.
If I am undone, it will not be alcohol, it will be the caustic bits from my
history coming out again at a low point, and resultingly ending up alone.
