Folding bikes are great, but the good ones (small enough to put in a
large suitcase without disassembly) are expensive.  Not nearly as
expensive as a car, of course.

The local trains from Kaiserslautern are spec'd for at least 12
regular bikes, so I usually don't bother folding mine; it's not one of
the really small ones anyway.  For me, the main advantage is the
smaller wheels, which make it much easier to start moving from a dead
stop (a bigger deal in Philly and Montreal than here).
