Bill

For the benefit of others on your list, I will point out that this shot was taken the day AFTER discontinuance of service on PRC routes 60 and 68. This was a Pittsburgh Electric Railway Club enthusiast tour which covered both routes, on Sunday, 21 September 1958. While both you and I were on that trip, we had not met and did not then. Shame!

This location is on 6th between Locust and Sinclair. The track was owned by West Penn Railways until 1951 when ownership was transferred to PRC. In West Penn days the track ran straight through the middle of the street. PRC started using the WP tracks on Sinclair, 6th, and Locust as a loop for Rt. 68 on 22 September 1928 under lease from WP and used the loop for almost exactly 30 years to the day. At some point, date unknown to me, the track on 6th was swung to the curb so that Rt. 68 cars laying over before returning to Pittsburgh would not have to block the middle of this narrow street.

West :Penn used a similar arrangement on some of their branch lines. Brownsville and Fairchance come quickly to mind.
