Is that where the Mexicans go? I'm smiling but I am pulling your chain a little Herb. Actually, some of those places can be pretty good.

There is a Giant in Lancaster, built on the site of the former carbarn, which has things that none of their other stores have. Why? Because it is in the city. By wife used to teach in a city junior high school a block from that store and described her classes as one-third white, one-third black and one-third Hispanic. And that Giant store tries to cater to all of them.

My favorite, Herb, is a small chain of three stores run by a local family. They have one small store (like an old A&P) and two fairly large stores, big enough to stock anything. The large one at the northern boundary of this township is surprising. The township in the 1950s was 100% white and so was the town of Lititz to the north. But things are changing. And so are tastes. In 1950 if you were Polish, Italian, Black, they didn't want you. Now that store has a whole island of Italian foods brought in from DeLallo's in Jeannette.
There is another island and a frozen food case for just Indian foods. You want Mexican? Same thing. You want Jewish white fish salad? They've got it too. Damn, I'm making myself hungry.
