[PRCo] Mixed Bag Of Old Pittsburgh

Twice I got to Forbes Field, once with my Grandpa (not my dad) and once with
the knothole gang. Sure would have liked to get there more though.
Every year on that date and that time the game is replayed at Maz's wall by
a bunch of fading fanatics. Apparently a couple years ago Maz was there. I
remember it well, I was in basic training in Lackland.

I too was only there once, but I was a Pirates fan and enjoyed the game. It
was AIR in 1951. Pgh played the Dodgers with Preacher Roe pitching for the
latter and Murray Dickson for the Bucs. Brooklyn won, 3-1.
The next day my brother and I rode the Mt. Oliver incline, which was
scheduled for abandonment.
Both items are still rather clear in my memory even today.

New Forbes Field? Well, it appears to be dated 1927 in the photo and
another link says the stands were extended along the right field line in
1925, which is consistent with the photo. Notice the higher roof line
along the right field (far left in the picture). That fountain is still
there today on the south side of Frank Cutlo Drive (who the dickens was he?)
Considering we love sports, there are probably more links to Forbes Field
than anything else you might want to look up.
I was only there once. I think my father thought he was ignoring my
upbringing. Someone must have given him a couple of free tickets and he
didn't know what the _______ to do with them so I was taken to a Pirates
game about 1948. I was bored to death. But I can honestly say I sat in
the stands at Forbes Field about 2nd or 3rd grade. (I might have been
happier riding West Penn.) Some of us grow up later than others. Also
took me longer to figure out what women are than other guys ..
