[PRCo] PRCo Deadly Streets

This realty company advertisement from 1924 is interesting. It shows scores
of people walking through the Liberty Tunnels using four sidewalks. In the
late 1920s, early 1930s auto traffic had to be restricted by limiting the
number of vehicles in the tunnels at any given time. This was done because
many drivers were actually becoming Carbon Monoxide victims during peak
traffic periods when traffic would be standing in the tunnels. This also
brought about the installation of a ventilation system to keep the air
somewhat clean inside the tubes. I could imagine that the majority of those
pedestrians, walking through the tubes in the advertisement, would never
make out the other end do to Carbon Monoxide gas.
