Goes back forever? Sure does. Anne X Alpern was probably my most hated villain when I was growing up.

I guess the typical railfan scans the trolley stories. You and I read the newspaper and you find out that nothing really changes over time. Only the names have been changed.

I am not condemning Matt for punching in the words trolley or street car to see what they bring up. Computers have become fantastic search tools.

But I still find it fantastic to simply sit here and start the year with January 1 and read right through to December 31st. And that includes everything from what the Democrats were doing to what Al Capp wrote into Li'l Abner.

Of course I am finding the fight against Pittsburgh Railways goes back forever. They were evil because they didn't want to run the service on all routes every 30 seconds, without causing any congestion for automobiles, and without charging the riders a fare. And since they were evil, the politicians always wanted to beat Fitzgerald and company (and successors) over the head. Trouble is today we is them.

It's a lot of fun reading things like all of 1947 … because I was in first grade then … couldn't read the papers … didn't really know what was going on. Now I am finding out what was happening around me.
