Good Shots by Larry Allen......
For the record: The Stop was known as County Line Road, and so
announced by the Conductor on the westbound trips.
In those days, the great prepondurance of ridership was inbound in the
morning and outbound in the afternoon rushhours. Therefore, no stop
calling was offered in the opposing direction of travel until reaching
35th, 27th and 16th streets for those passengers wishing to disembark.
Although Golfers did use the Rapid Transit Lines to the Brown Deer and
Town of Greenfield Park (now in West Allis-124th street), that ridership
faded out with the oncoming highway improvements and the Ford Model A
automobile mass production of the '30's. Commuter traffic did continue
to rise into the WW 2 era. Gas Rationing (an A Sticker got you four
gallons per week during the conflict) forced the travelling public to
public transportation for the duration of the War.
