Ken and list: The two westbound cars are likely two Charter Cars that
were plying the WELLS line on the final day of operation or ... the
weekend before. As I recall, the 966 and 972 were so used as many photos
were taken of them, notably on the Wauwatosa prow alondside the MILW
Road between 72nd and Harwood.

There are two clues to such Charters, mainly the lack of a Run Number
and a blank Route Sign although, on request, the motorman would crank in
a Route Number, ususally number 10 for a photographer.

Then there were the rare but occassional requests from a photographer,
for a Route Sign number other than that which would apply to the photo
location. Controversy would then develop among serious photographers
and historians as to where the photo was taken. Notably, the 500 class
car with a 23(?) Route Number, that was photographed at End of Line on
Route 40.
