Your statement reminded me, back when I was taking classes full-time at
Carnegie Mellon (which means it was more than 4 years ago, never mind the
fact that I completed requirements for a degree and it was conferred only
a month ago...) a graduate student in my department (Civil Engineering)
was working on a thesis on the Pittsburgh Railways Company. I only know
this because I happened to be standing at the department's printer waiting
for some drawings for a project when she printed some of the pages. 

One of these days I'll have to visit my advisor and see where such
material goes, because it never made it in with the other engineering
theses in the Engineering and Science library, and I'd really like to see
if it's at all interesting.
