Was 9 Charles the only route where you needed a controller to go east
and a brake valve to go west?

This must be "time to remember": The 9-Charles St. Transfer was very
short and very steep, especially at the north end where it connected
with
8-Perrysville (the City View shuttle bus connected at this point too,
but
went in the other direction (northeastbound across Perryville Ave.) to
City View.  What was most interesting about route 9, was that its
layover/crossover point was on the steepest part of Charles St. at the
interesction with Perrysville Ave.  Cars would climb up Charles St.,
stop
to reverse poles, and then roll back down Charles Street on the other
track.
