Robert,

You are right -- the Mayflower -- and its the second time someone has had
to refresh my memory about its name.

You've also given me a modeling hint. Sometimes we forget how often
buildings were multiple use in urban areas. We think of the strip mall or
shopping center as a "modern" phenomenon, but shared or leased space has
always been with us.

The Sixth/Penn corner of that building (before Heinz Hall) might even have
been a separate structure with a common exterior. I know the theatre did
not use that corner anywhere in the interior, except for a small office
off the lobby near the elevator shaft. I think there was at least one
other shop between the Mayflower and the Sixth Street main entrance. That
entrance led past the concession stand to the big marble staircase. The
lobby then opened up towards the Penn Avenue exit doors. The auditorium
itself stretched from Penn to the alley between Penn and Liberty and from
the lobby to an alley between Sixth and Seventh.

The modeling hint? Signs in second floor windows representing businesses
different from those on the street floor.
