Greetings!
The overhead trolley wire frogs were sold in two common sizes -
10-degree for entering and 8-degree for trailing. What was the standard
weight for each frog for wheel - and for shoe? Weight is without the
Yoke.
The yoke would mount on top of the frog body and is used to clamp the
trolleywires together. But because of the tremendous weight associated
with the overhead, many properties ran the terminating wire to a wayside
pole to reduce the strain. The actual trolleywire extended several feet
beyond the frog and was attached to a wood strain insulator. Standard
guy wire then ran to the pole with another wood strain insulator near
the pole.
The yoke would hold the wires together when the frog is removed for
replacement but the yoke is not necessary.
