Ken,

Me too (being tongue-in-cheek with my comments on "Don't knock Argus..").

I'm amazed at how good those C-3 35mm images are. They're much better
than the old 120-size negative film I took with the fixed-focus camera,
and produce close to the image quality that I took later with the
Nikons. The Nikon gives much better focus and composition control, but
for $18 (what I paid for the Argus new in 1962). the C-3 isn't a bad
second choice. The biggest complaint I had about the C-3 was lens
changing - you have to remove a threaded screw on a focusing gear, then
unscrew the lens, and repeat the process to change to the new lens.
Meanwhile, the 1200 PCC has passed you by on Liberty Avenue!

Actually, the current 35mm snapshot cameras (and even the disposable
models) are many times better than the 120-size snapshot cameras of the
50s and 60s. It must be the result of better lenses and flatter film
planes.

PS - The other trick to getting good nighttime photos is to use a small
lens aperture (e.g., f/8), open the shutter with the camera on a tripod,
lock the shutter release cable, and then walk around the subject (e.g.,
trolley) and fire the electronic flash as many times as possible until
it's time to close the shutter. With the Argus, this meant using many #5
flashbulbs; once I got the Nikon, I started to use electronic flash and
saved a bundle on flashbulbs.
