The 16th St. Bridge was rebuilt and got new tracks in 1950.
Conincidentally, I just came across some photos I took of PAT crews
removing overhead wires from Chestnut and Ohio Streets.
I also rode the 77/54 to cultural attractions, but in the opposite
direction than Matt did. I lived on the North Side, and rode the 77/54
to Oakland atttractions such as the Canegie Museum and Forbes Field.
And, while in Pittsburgh last week I happened to drive on Chestnut Street
between Ohio St. and Spring Garden Avenue. The rail is still in several
blocks of Chestnut Street, and appears to be be in great shape, alignment
and gauge.
