    Thank you for serving our country and providing us with a different view
of mass transit.
    My father has often told me about coming home from Europe in June of
1945 and coming into Pittsburgh on the PRR.  Being one of ten children, the
family did not own a car and there was no one to meet him in Pittsburgh.  He
was a member of Company H of the 28th Division out of little Washington.
His only way home was the interurban to Washington.  Once there, he had to
walk to his parents home on Baltimore Avenue.
    I am sure many other service men had to do the same thing all over the
country.  We owe them our eternal gratitude.
    He has asked me several times if any of the big interurbans (3800's)
were saved, an as far as I can determine, none were.
