Yes, it could have been used as a wye.  Until the connecting tracks were built in the
point and the newer loop, I think shop cars from Ingram had to go over Carson Street.
By 1964, the tracks were covered but there was still wire there.  I guess Charlie Shauck
simply didn't have enough money in the budget to tear the wire down ... perhaps the
scrap price of copper was done.  I've not looked at a wiring print to see which
substations fed what lines and where the breakers were ... perhaps it was retained to
feed the south end of the Point Bridge in an emergency (but not very likely).  I recall
Shauck complaining that the state wanted him to get the wires out of their way for
construction of the new bridge for the Parkway West, and he was muttering that, if he
turned off the power, the thieves would take all the copper in two days.
