But Seriously

I'm sitting out in here in Bloomington, IN, in a state that is totally
dependent on a hub of Interstate highways in, around, and through the
state capital, connecting all parts of the state (except the southwest
corner) and basically funded with Federal highway dollars.

I've visited Seattle, read about Dallas, heard about museum efforts in the
northeast corridor -- but these brainstorms about bringing the trolley
back to Pittsburgh have to be one of the most exciting discussions I've
heard in a long time.

Who are the historical players with any pull in Allegheny County today? Or
is that still somewhat of an oxymoron in Pittsburgh? What society, what
group of individuals, what business/commercial organization might be
interested in this?

It's going to take a well-structured proposal to get in the door, but it's
also going to take a well-managed operation to make it attractive in the
long run.

I look at what started at the P&LE station 10 years? 20 years? ago and
almost cry. It was static. There was no long-range payoff for investment,
for civic committment.

This could be different. This could be a workable, viable, historical,
economic contribution to a city that needs attractions beyond the Steelers
to bring visitors from New England, from the midwest, from the west coast,
from overseas.

And don't forget activating some row down toward Washington to the PTM
<grin>.

Come on, folks. Who do we have to talk to? Who could ramrod this little
adventure? Who's got the pull?
