Greetings!

	Gleanings From *Trolley Fare*
		April--1970

"This story made TF news in the Nov. '64 issue."

"Port Authority Transit - P-A-T is the name."

"Yes PAAC [Port Authority of Allegheny County] has a new name, and the
lucky winner of the 'Suggest a Name' competition has a free transit pass
for next year. The competition certainly sparked off a lot of ingenious
thinking and you were quite right in thinking that it wasn't all in the
right direction. PAT was the winner with ACT (Allegheny County Transit)
a close runner up. PAAC seemed most amused with the longest suggestion
which was COWPATH (COunty Wide Port AuTHority) with the appealing
motto: 'Wander here, wander there with COWPATH.' Others that caught
the fancy of your editor and are fit to print are: THRUST--THree Rivers
United System of Transportation; SALT--Stop and Lurch Transit with the
motto 'Put SALT on the road and see how it slows down traffic.' Then
there was PASTRY--Pittsburgh Area STreet RailwaY, with certainly the
best thought out motto 'Ride PASTRY; we knead your dough.' LIFT--Leader
In Future Transportation; GETLOST--Greenfield, Etna, Trafford,
Lawrenceville and Ohio valley Superior Transit, - - 'Go GETLOST and
leave the driving to us.' One of the several parodies on the Greyhound
slogan: FLAT--Frequently Late Authority Transit--'Ride the FLAT cars;'
RUST--Round-about Up and down Slow Transit,--'RUST in peace.' PAT is
certainly a good name, and we wish PAT every success in the tremendous
amount of effort being put forth by very few people to give Pittsburgh a
transportation system second to none."
