Greetings!
Gleanings From *Trolley Fare*
February--1965
"It was recently announced by PAT that they had approved the scrapping
of 40 trolleys. Since PAT is none too well supplied with excess cars
(go to Craft Ave. CH any weekday afternoon between 3 and 4 PM and you'll
be likely to find the yard completely empty) it is a bit of a mystery
just which cars are to get the ax. The fact that there are exactly 40
1200's left (excluding M1276) could be significant, but it was generally
assumed that all these were left to PRCo on March 1. Surely none of the
80-some cars in Rankin are involved (go out there and you'll find a sign
on the front door that reads 'No tresspassing, Port Authority of
Allegheny County employees not permitted.'), so the mystery stands for
the time being. The cars were to be 'cannabalized' for parts so stated
the news release."
"The impending acquisition of 180 to 200 more of those 'other vehicles'
was also announced. This means the end is in sight for trolley routes
6, 8, 10, 13, 15, 21, and at least some of the lines thru Wilkinsburg
and the 65/55. Pittsburgh without the 21 Fineview carline; why it would
just be some *ordinary* city!"
