Continuing the ebay discussion....the description of this book on ebay states that it's an "Ex-library copy" - in other words, the seller probably bought it for pennies, and now he'll make at least $100 on his ebay sale.

My local library has several shelves of books that are extra copies.  These books are placed on shelves in the lobby, and are sold for 50-cents or $1 each depending on SIZE (never mind the content or rarity).  I have gotten some good bargains there, including some of the old S.Kip Farrington railroad books, a Car Builders Cyclopedia and numerous Time-Life science books.

I'm sure that many libraries dispose of their surplus books this way.
