We have pictures ... many pictures ... of cars in the Wilmerding wye.
Right at the tail track of the wye was the staircase from the pedestrian
subway under the Pennsylvania Railroad. At shift changes at
Westinghouse Air Brake, people would literally be swarming around the
cars as the motormen backed them into the wye. Remember, PRC cars had
no back up controllers except on certain interurban cars. The wye at
Wilmerding was replaced by a loop in the 1950s ... I have a color print
of a 4800 in the wye taken by a friend who worked at the New Kensington
"Y" in 1950-1952. In the later case, "Y" is synonymous with YMCA.
