The 7-Charles St. line was abandoned in September, 1961. The 9-Charles St.
Transfer line ended on September 14, 1951.
A few more thoughts on the trackwork at Perrysville Ave. and Charles St.: I
believe that some of the PRC "Transfer" lines were modifications of earlier through
routes, the idea being that the shuttle could provide continuous service to a
rather short section of street without the complications of through routing from
other lines.
IF the previous trackwork at Perrysville and Charles allowed outbound 8-Perrysville
cars to turn at Charles St. and return downtown via route 7, then it would be a
kind of "great circle" routing something like 10/15. Or, it may have been just a
cutback of route 8, or an extension of 8 to the route 7 loop.
By the way, the 1959 PRC map (available from PTM) is a great resource for getting
everyone oriented to the trackwork and general locale when questions like this come
up.

PS - I'm getting back to the Pittsburgh trolley list after eight days in Southern
California where I managed to take 450+ photos between Los Angeles and San Diego.
An enjoyable way to wear out my cameras and shoes.
