As has been pointed out before in this site, PRC twice spent a lot of
money studying the west end for conversion to trolley coach simply
because those routes had not been profitable for years. The rails and
wire on Carson Street were intact until the power had to be turned off
for construction of the new Fort Pitt bridge. PRC could have used that
route. I'm sure they could have used the new bridge had they wanted to
spend the money. And perhaps they could have purchased and continued to
use the Point Bridge. But yes, the economics simply were not there. In
any business, there is a time to cut bait and run before the shark gets
you.
