Good Morning!!

"This obscure line had its origin in a narrow-gauge horsecar line built by the WHEELING
& ELMGROVE RWY. to reach a cemetery outside Wheeling, WV, in 1877!! In 1878, the line
was sold and converted to a standard-gauge steam line. Operations began using steam
dummies in 1879."
"Another line, the SURBURBAN RWY., was built in 1897 from Elm Grove to
Tradelphia,....... Then in 1900 these two line were consolidated and extended to West
Alexander, PA> Promoters intended to reach Washington, PA, via Claysville and connect
with the PITTSBURGH RWYS. but nothing came of this project......."
"Since the line was mainly in West Virginia, the Pennsylvania Railway Commission allowd
its WV counterpart to regulate the PA trackage. The line was cut back to Roney's Park,
WV, in 1925."

A photo does show a dt clerestory RR roof wood trolley--car operating on the system; no
mention in the text of conversion to electric.

From Ben Rohrbeck's book *PA Traction,* pg.253.
