It sucks, but look around you. Companies get sued for being even slightly
nice to their employees or even keeping a "rainy day" fund, instead of
paying every penny out as dividends. 

I'd like to live in not-almighty-dollar-land, but I'm resigned to that not
happening in my lifetime, in this country.

We'll see what happens when I make my million;-) I've never been fiscally
prudent. Money comes in, money goes out. If I had it I'm sure there'd be
something "better" to spend it on, but I'm not known for my "better"
spending.
