The All--Electric--PCCs in LA--LA--LAnd only ran on one line until the last week or
two of service. When these *monsters* appeared on another line, a patron complained
that the new buses were supposed to pull to the curb, not stop out on the street.
Personally, I AM a RailFan.......And I do NOT care what the public labels any of
the equipment and what the public prefers to ride! I like trolleycars, I like riding
trolleycars, I like collecting memorabilia about trolleycars, and I like model
trolleycars!
History reveals that the pendulum swings right and left -- have never seen a pendulum
stop in the middle --- if it does, we are in Real Trouble!(:->) Trolleycars very
important from 1900--1930, belittled but needed from 1930--1950, totally denigrated from
1950--1970, had to change the name to ({[light--rail]}) to reintroduce rail transit in
cities from 1970--to--present (time line is certainly debatable, but it Does Make A
Point!)
I enjoyed trolleycars in a declining era but in a city where trolleycars were very much
prominent in ALL parts of the city until 1960! I consider myself extremely fortunate.
Will trolleycars make a comeback? Don't know. If they do---Fine; if they
don't---Fine. It is part of history and we have to accept what is here. Don't care
about the economics behind the picture and when talking about the past, it is
insignificant anyhow. The trolleycars existed and I enjoyed them as a transit rider and
as a hobby.
And as this list for Pittsburgh--Railways hints at, we are talking more of the past than
the present. And we are talking from the perspective of those who enjoy trolleycars as a
hobby aka RailFan!
