Good Morning!!

Dennis M. Linsky (mailto:Dennismk1 at aol.com) gleans interesting
trivia
from a variety of traction periodicals that often reflect events of
50--years ago or more. The following is from Mr. Linsky and might be
of some interest here as certain *list--owners* have an interest in
the PRR!!(:->)

Good Morning, Trolley Folks:

Fontella Bass had a top 20 hit with "Rescue Me" in November, 1965.
But
it was 7 years earlier when the Pennsylvania Railroad made its own
rescue mission. In order to bring a 9-year old boy, who had fallen into
an isolated quarry, to the nearest access road 2 miles away, a GG-1 on
the PRR's Columbia and Port Deposit branch near Perryville, Maryland,
was pressed into service. The engine was in the area for helper service
for an ore train, but after communication with Perryville Tower to stop
all other movements on the branch, it picked up 2 rescue workers and a
stretcher, then went to the accident scene.

The injured boy was lifted onto the cab and was moved to the nearest
grade crossing where an ambulance was waiting to speed the boy to a
hospital. Unfortunately, he later died of head and body injuries in a
Baltimore hospital.

    Very Sincerely,

    Dennis M. Linsky
