They are all our favorites -- some more so than others!!
Even though I did not live on the lines, the interurbans would top my
list -- prw except for downtown loop, good variety in operation with
single and double track, trestles, bridges -- fast operation through
the 1950s -- equipment modified specifically for use on these lines
and rarely did interurban equipment service other lines except special
circumstances.
38--Mt.-Lebanon for a variety of reasons (again, not my hometown line)
-- dinky track connection to interurbans, interesting loop arrangement,
speed on truck route 19 inbound of Brookline Jct, ramp, 1,000--foot Palm
Garden trestle.
42-Dormont with wye at end of line and interesting single track
connection to 38-line, back yard prw, paved center of the highway prw,
broad Blvd thru Beechview and turnback loop at Neeld (43-line), high
trestles on grades, curved trestle, side of the hill prw, and along with
38- and 39-lines the 1,000--foot Palm Garden Trestle and revenue run
thru the middle of the South Hills Yard. Hometown line after 1946!!
SOUTH HILLS JUNCTION AND YARD!!!!!!! Talk about a multitude of
trolleycar activity that would keep one's head swimming -- Charleroi,
Washington, Castle Shannon, 38-Mt. Lebanon, 39-Brookline,
40-Mt.Washington, 42-Dormont, 43-Neeld rush hour trippers, 44-Knoxville,
47-Carrick rush hour trippers, 48-Arlington routes all passed through
here on quite a regular basis. Activity at rush hours with cars
pulling in and out in addition to revenue runs through the area WithOut
signalling except for at the moputh of the tunnel!!
39-Brookline with the very Broad Blvd running, a little prw, single
track to a loop near the 'Woods!' Truck route 19 inbound of Brookline
Jct.
40-Mt.Washington with unique narrow streets, single track on street,
super close clearances, cliff-hanger and view along Mt. Washington!
This is barely a start.
