Hello all,
I believe the PA Trolley Museum once held a fantrip on a motor bus to
"trace" the Harmony streetcar line. I unfortunately, missed out on this.
To those of you familiar enough with this great interurban line -
whether through personal experience, or stories handed down through time
- do you know if the line ran up what eventually became McKnight Road?
I realize that once the tracks left Evergreen Road off of East Street,
the line ran on private right of way - probably until it reached it's
ultimate desitination. But I always figured that McKnight was such a
wide business district highway because it once was occupied by trolleys
on their own right of way. I'm probably way off here & someone
will say that the tracks left Evergreen and ventured up into the hills
surrounding McKnight, but it would be interesting to know.
Also, I take special note of the name of a small shopping center on the
right side of McKnight - outbound - shortly befor McKnight crosses over
Babcock Blvd. It is called "????? Junction" shopping center. (Can't
think of the full name - or maybe it is simply, "Junction.") There are
no railroads - former or current in the area, and the only other reason
I could think it would get a "junction" name was because of the Harmony
route.
Thanks much,
Matt
