ED:	I think that what was originally referred to here was the 
*listing--of--routes*  as  *Paper--Work*  with numbers which did not
necessarily correspond to those displayed on the equipment.   Such a
listing was made in 1910--1920 and we have discussed it before - may have
even run over 100.

	Basically, Interurban equipment diaplay  DESTINATION  signs because they
are travelling from one city to another (usually but not always without
numbers)   ---   while city routes display  ROUTE  signs because they work
intra-city, and these signs are usually preceeded by numbers and//or
letters.   Think that Don Galt originally shared this information and may
have been that the interurbans and Washington//Dopnoro locals were numbers
in the 100s.

	Shannon was the only interurban to display a number   ---   37--SHANNON  
---   in PRCo days.   Library and Drake did not display numbers until well
into  ({[pat]})  days.   Whether or not they qualified for same is another
story   ---   could LIBRARY qualify as a separate destination?   If true,
then McKeesport and other routes could have displayed Destination signs as
well.

	Hope this doesn't take on a life of its own!(:->)
