Trust me, John's "junk" is better than a lot of other people's best. And no,
I'm not butt-kissing, it's true! I'm sure he's had some failures, like all
photographers do, but from what I've seen and bought, the ones he shares are
wonderful. They capture the ambience of Pittsburgh and the surrounding
communities. As good as his digital reprints look, imagine these images being
shown on a screen from the original transparencies.
I will probably be in Atlanta this coming June, so I have a
suggestion.........something that would protect John's body of work, but
still may provide a glimpse to us absentees:
Why not run a camcorder to pick up the slide show and commentary? No reprints
could be stolen like they could from a CD and we can hear John's memories as
well as the comments of other fans present. The fan community is part of
Pittsburgh traction history and lore. Perhaps a professional filming would be
good for the Museum archives and would sell enough copies to cover the cost.
Just a thought.........
