Several months ago, while I was butchering the
ancestry of the car house in DuBois, I hinted darkly
at a car house in Punxsutawney.
Fortunately, I did check a reference, "Trolleys From
the Mines", Richard C. Albert copyright 1980.
Punxsutawney was a bit odd, in that there was but one
company, Jefferson Traction Company, but two separate
street car lines. They operated on opposite sides of
the BR&P main, and did not connect. Howewver, they
were creatures of the same corporation, and that
corporation had permission to cross the BR&P, they
just never bothered to do it.
I thought I knew where the car house for the line
north of the tracks was located. Checking the Sanborn
maps, I found that I had been wrong. I now think that
the car house does exist, but that someone has built
additions on each end of it and has thus wiped out any
sign of its origin.
That is, at the location where the Sanborn maps show a
long, narrow building marked "car barn", there is a
long, narrow building which has newer pieces built on
each end. Nothing to drive any distance to see.
The other car house, on the other side of the tracks
appears to have vanished to make room for a very
large, very new concrete block truck garage.
