Alexander replaced Banfield in 1938. Never underestimate the power of a
Western Pennsylvania weed...the ballast on the OB side may have contained
something toxic. That's how West Penn avoided any kind of spray car for its
PRW...nothing will grow in fresh cokemaking waste. They had two sidings for
acquiring this material...one at Standard, just north of Mount Pleasant, the
other at Continental #1, just west of Uniontown.

Good Morning!
http://davesrailpix.railfan.net/pitts/htm/bvp050.htm is an interesting
photo. Notice all the *weeds* around the rails on the tangent track
while the track 3703 is negotiating is weed--free! Siding used to be at
Banfield and was moved to Alexander, but I don't have a date -- from my
map, seems like a fair little distance up the road (north of Banfield.)
Thus we might assume that the track 3703 is operating on was the one added
for the siding and would be less prone to weeks.
