The weed issue has to be a function of how the spray car was unloaded.
Arnold was at the end of Nachod territory; Alexander was in the middle. The
line between Richfol and Arnold never saw US&S signals.

Hi Tom!

Very interesting. Might be Nachod and they were only 2-aspect - On and
Off, Green and Red. Note the contactors in each trolleywire - one to
activate the signal when entering the single track, the other to reset to
proceed when clearing the single track.
*Maybe* full blown US&S operated thru track circuits were installed
later. My map indicates that it is 5,745--feet from the end of double
track in Canonsburg near Ashland to the center of Alexander (twas
7,710--feet to Banfield.) Wonder if these blocks were subdivided to allow
more than one car. Might be faster to set up with Nachod (or Nachod-type
and trolley pole activated) than to convert to US&S. And it is
9,797--feet from Alexander to Arnold!

	In http://davesrailpix.railfan.net/pitts/htm/bvp055.htm, the construction
of the siding looks the same as Alexander, all the weeds are on one track,
and trolley wire contacts are evident in the 2-wires at the south end of
the siding with similar signals. How do we get 2-sidings with weeds on
only one track?(:->)
If this is Arnold, then 3713 is heading south! My map shows that heading
south at Arnold is straight thru the facing point turnout with the siding
to the east. And the trolley wire contactors for activation of the
signals are here, too, and that would be logical as both sections of single
track, north and south of Banfield, would be affected when the siding was
moved to Alexander.
It is just the opposite at Alexander --- a southbound car takes the
facing-point turnout to the right into the siding to the west while a
northbound car goes straight thru the facing point turnout. That means
that 3713 would be heading north at Alexander.
But I am suspicious of 2-sidings with weeds on only one track. Wonder if
tis possible that Bill mislabeled one photo?!?!(:->)

Another interesting facet of this phoyo is the signal mounted on the
pole -- it is missing one aspect, presumably green -- not a normal
USS&S signal. Any thoughts on this? Possibly PRCo did not want to
spen the additional funds required for a "full blown", typical
signal on a dedicated mast.

Good Morning!

	http://davesrailpix.railfan.net/pitts/htm/bvp050.htm is an interesting
photo. Notice all the *weeds* around the rails on the tangent track
while the track 3703 is negotiating is weed--free! Siding used to be at
Banfield and was moved to Alexander, but I don't have a date -- from my
map, seems like a fair little distance up the road (north of Banfield.)

Thus we might assume that the track 3703 is operating on was the one added
for the siding and would be less prone to weeks.
