Thank You, Robert, for an extremely detailed identification of the

To help orient the view, see the photo of the PRR station and Federal
Building that I took on 7/9/76 -
http://gelwood.railfan.net/other/prr/prr-pitt-sta-rc.jpg

Note the mail truck loading "deck" at the Bigelow Blvd. level on the south
side of the P.O., and the train moving under the deck and into the
tunnel. Just to the left of the train are some mail cars on the sidings
leading into the ground level of the P.O.

Getting back to Jim's photo: note the inverted "U" concrete structure just
above 1745. That was one of the supports for a pedestrian bridge that
linked Liberty Avenue (near the red brick driveway entrance) with the Lower
Hill (site of the Civic Arena) to allow pedestrians to cross over the PRR
tracks. The bridge was removed around 1960-62 when Bigelow Blvd. and other
streets in that area were rebuilt and the level of the roadways changed.
Before the Civic Arena was built, the Lower Hill had active retail
businesses and there were a couple of churches there too (Epiphany Church
is still there, but St. Peter's was torn down) - the pedestrian bridge was
a convenient shortcut from Liberty Avenue to the Hill.

HI!
They are there, John - difficult to see - I can see the original
4-rails, 2-tracks. Taken with 135mm telephoto. Even necessary to look
twice to see tracks in the foreground.
This is taken during ({[pat]}) era and probably 1966--1970 time
frame. KENNYWOOD sign??????????? Operators simply rolled it off-route
when returning to the basrn and were either in between route and CAR
HOUSE or thought this was good enough and left it there.

If that's Grant behind the car where are the straight-through
double tracks that connected northbound to east on Liberty and southbound
from Liberty/11th? Must've had'em out at the dry cleaners that day.

HI!
The building is Whatever was on that corner - and the brick is
leading to the PRR station with some cars parked there. And yes, the
Civic Arena sits atop the hillside - but is not in the original photo taken
with 135mm telephoto.

Wow - so that cement block structure to the right rear - is the
Post Office? -- and the red brick in the back ground is the PRR parking lot
entrance? And the "hillside" above is leading up to where the Civic Arena
is?
