[PRCo] Lincoln Place

Matt,

I've been away since last week - in Minneapolis where I rode the trolleys on
the short line between Lakes Harriet and Calhoun. The reconstruction of
Twin Cities PCC 322 is OUTSTANDING (it deserves all-caps)! It's like brand
new and rides great. I assume that PRC 1711 will be the same.

PCC 322 seems to appear like it did when delivered to TCRT in 1946 (unlike
the TTC PCCs which were modernized over the years in Toronto before going to
other cities like Kenosha). The inside window frames look a little like
those on PRC 1700s, but 322's windows are openable, using cranks (like PRC
1600s).

I paid my fares on the trolleys ($1.50 round trip) in Minneapolis, but when
leaving, I mentioned that I'm a member of PTM, and the motorman said that I
could have ridden free.

Lots of signs of construction along the new light rail line from downtown
Minneapolis to the airport. The first segment is scheduled to open later
this year, and the rest - in segments - by the end of 2004.

Getting back to your Lincoln Place photos, Matt - thanks for taking and
sharing them. I was suprised by two things I saw in the photos:

1. The extent to which some of the scenes have changed since abandonment in
1964.

2. How much of the private right-of-way still exists and is clearly visible
as ROW.

I regularly walked and photographed the 65 line in 1963-64, but it's been
close to 20 years since I have been in that area. Also surprised to hear
that Playmore Lanes (where I bowled in the 60s) is still there.

Thanks again.
