Something to remember next time one buys a soda (to provide a Pittsburgh 
link) in a plastic bottle.

Likewise, there is a lot of plastic in today's automobiles;   we don't lug 
around as much steel in each car as we use to, which has greatly helped fuel 
efficiency.

LTV managed to dump their retired J&L employees - and widows - couple years 
ago.  I suspect taxpayers are now paying mother-in-laws retirement check.

Actually much cheaper to make steel in a mini-mill using scrap as raw 
material.  Perhaps it is an advantage of USA to let Japan, India and China 
waste their energy resources investing in basic steel production.
