If anybody has been getting Trains Magazine,there was a story about the railroads involvment in the steel industry that made them big bucks. Their assesment was that the game is over!!! The proliferation of MINI-MILLS that are within trucking distance of the auto manufacturers,roll out the needed steel and deliver it directly to the assembly plants,either already formed ,or formed at the auto assembly plant. In one instance, the CSX transported rolls of steel 100 or less miles to the auto plant from Illinois to Ohio !!  There would be less transport of finished autos if the assembly plants are built in the areas where a large volume of autos are sold,California being one place that fits this plan. There were others but the list is too long for this group to digest.   rogertrolley
