Hello all,
Memories of the 39 Brookline carline. My aunt lived across the street
from the 39 loop. I used to sit on the stoop and watch the cars pull
into the loop. The car would pull up and stop on the straight track
as you can see in this photo:

The motorman would wait about 5-10 minutes on this track, then turn
around the loop and wait on the opposite side for another however many
minutes ---> 5-10-15, can't quite remember the exact number of minutes.
This was practiced faithfully, from what I saw. No car ever made the
whole loop and stop on the other side, to return. The practice was
always wait so many minutes on one side of the loop, then so many
minutes on the other side. Anyone know why? I'm guessing there were
signals being sent back to headquarters -- or sometimes simply because
there was another car already waiting at the loop.
Matt
