Lord knows I don't want to be on the other side of an argument with Harold (actually I am on his side, but cautiously), but in Houston (TX) a fair amount of the population cannot read English (or not very well - I don't know about the rest of you but when I go to an ATM machine I have to tell it English or it defaults to Spanish)), and the driving tends to be, lets say, third world-ish. Combine that wih all the warning signs buried among other construction signs and its going to be rough going for awhile. Not that we can't learn, and yes, hitting me with an "if Dallas can do it" argument does sting. You can't believe (or maybe you can, seeing as how we are an oil town) the backlash from some political corners about this rail project, and I am afraid every accident will rally their cause against further rail expansion up some very well defined corridors into the suburbs. Some concrete and asphalte contractors must have deep hooks into the city - they are about to expand I 10 past my house from 6 lanes to as much as 22 (that was the original plan, they may have cut it back). There was a proposal to put light rail down the center but that was defeated.
