  In fact, my grandmother(we called her Nona)used the words"la machina"
when referring to automobiles. She was of Northern Italian decent
and I remember some of her expressions and words quite well.
 She was the one responsible for my interest in Pittsburgh streetcars
by taking me on my first ride when I was 3 or 4. I can still recall
seeing a streetcar coming down the ramp from Dawn onto West Liberty.
We were riding a bus at the time, much to my displeasure. I must have
whined quite a bit because she never took me into town by bus again.

  I have been out of touch for the last couple days. I hope everyone
