Absolutely right Boris. But there are a few of us out there who don't
bury our heads in the sand. I accept fact. Ken Josephson, on Derrick's
list, is another who accepts the truth ... he is on occasion annoyed
that some of the poorly planned light rail schemes will make others look
bad. One of the worst examples in the US is San Jose. Baltimore isn't
so good either. St. Louis looks good when you look at the number of
passengers they haul, but when you are charging the lowest per mile fare
in the country, it really isn't all that good.

We also have some very good schemes ... San Diego, Philadelphia to
Lindenwold NJ, Portland, Salt Lake, San Francisco's F line. Pittsburgh
would have a reasonable chance of success if it were run correctly ...
all the necessary geographic factors are there but the inmates are
running the prison. The basic problem in the U. S. is simply that
politicians use transit as a way to spend money and place idiots into
jobs ... transit here is not intended to move people (never was) and it
is not designed to make money (that went out with government ownership)
but it exists as a mechanism for moving money from the taxpayer's
pockets to businessmen's bank accounts. And there is nothing that can
be done about it because the public would never believe just how bad it
really is.
