Nearby merchants have a big interest in preventing direct connections
between expressways. They always prevail until the situation becomes
impossible and the remedy costs 20-30 times what it would have in the first
place. And the merchants, amazingly, have plenty of business after the work
is done, in spite of their prophecies of doom. If you have to stop to rest,
to eat or to refuel, you'll do it anyway.

ONE BIG QUESTION !! When is PA TURNPIKE going to build a decent connection
to the I-81 to Scranton going east ??? I sure did not see any signs telling
you how to get to that blasted road and ended up traveling a circuitous
route up thru Allentown on rt 6 !! I ended up passing up Scranton and
stopping there on the return trip. The wiered part was asking people at gas
stations how to get to Scranton and getting blank looks and statements that
they never heard of the place !!! I did manage to ride the trolley thru the
tunnel and back on former L&WV R-O-W . THat place is strange too as the line
the car runs on has no connection to get to their big carhouse, and instead
lives in its own one track structure along the line. In order to get to the
Electric City carhouse ,they would have to build a crossing over the steam
tracks to get there, which isn't in their current plans I guess !! cheers
