Greetings
I have enjoyed reading the technical details of
these two types of cars.
When PAT started the rehab of the 1600's, the GE 1700's were gone.
We needed more cars for rehab and the 1600's were it.
There were differences between the two types of cars but really
no alternatives.
One thing to remember is that the 1600's had windows that opened.
Many people, incljuding myself, never liked the 1700 ventilation
system. Sorry folks, but there is no substitute for fresh air and
larger windows.
About the seat configuration on the rebuilt 4000's.
I always preferred the original PRC PCC seating with a long side
bench between the doors. Older people, people with shopping
bags and suitcases, and families with small kids were better
served with this type of seating. We used this seating
on several orders of New Look buses with no problems.
If I were buying transit vehicles today for city service, I would
still opt for this seating in preference to the narrow siungle seating
if I wanted a wider aisle.
We ran several rider surveys on this and Pittsburghers liked it.
1776 was the first of the rebuilt 1600's. Do any of you know
where it is today.? Thanks for the information.
