Fred Schneider has been in the hospital since Friday night with insufferable
back pain.  We visited him Saturday evening and he could not sit up, or eat
or talk on the phone comfortably.  Marie told me a few minutes ago that an
MRI found a herniated disc, and that surgery is scheduled for 7:30 Tuesday
morning.  The chance for success, they were told, is in the 85% vicinity,
which seems to represent acceptable odds.

It is not yet known how long he will be in the hospital, or what the
recovery at home will entail.  Messages might best be (snail) mailed to 111
Delp Road, Lancaster PA 17601, rather than to the hospital or via email.  I
know he'd be glad to hear from his friends.

Knowing Fred as I do, he won't be down any longer than absolutely necessary!
