Ed's statement is most logical and it to many companies. Here in Lancaster
after 1909 the car house on North Queen Street was used only to store open
cars in the winter and possibly a few closed cars in the summer. New York
had some two story barns ... the excess seasonal fleet was upstairs.
Baltimore had 110 pairs of trucks and 220 open and closed bodies built in
1902 ... the trucks were used all year but half the bodies were stored for
half the year. And we all remember Rankin as a storage barn after 1937.
Philadelphia also had a lot of barns from underliers that were not used as
operating divisions.
