It was 44 years ago when the Transit Authority of Allegheny
County that was being set up in Pittsburgh was becoming a big
campaign issue. On Friday, October 23, 1959, the County
Commissioners met to launch a 2-year survey to solve local bus
and trolley problems. The study will investigate costs
involved in acquiring and consolidating Pittsburgh Railways and
28 independent bus lines into a unified rapid transit system.
The Authority will also investigate ways to modernize mass
transportation so that better service could be offered to
commuters. (After this 2-year investingation, the Authority
then was to proceed toward purchasing the transit systems
involved).
From HEADWAY RECORDER, November, 1959, page N-10, top.
Very Sincerely,
Dennis M. Linsky

Waiting for a bus is as thrilling as fishing,
with the similar tantalisation that something,
sometime, somehow, will turn up.
